Finally, the male anatomy counterpart to the ladies tutorial from a month or two ago :B

I decided not to address the male genitalia this time around... one reason being cuz I don't think they are drawn as often as the female parts, and secondly because I suck at them XD I won't link directly but if you click here you can find a separate link to another tutorial that I found interesting on a non-DA art site.

Oh yeah, sorry the colors are hellla ugly. I was feeling uninspired.

Thats it I guess... again, feel free to ref, copy or trace any of this, its all free for you to use. Hope someone gets some use out of it :)

Body hair? Ehh, most men don't have that, the ones who do are usually middle eastern or caucasian.

Here in North korea we are smooth, and the women prefer it.(Only gay men like teh body hair.)

question! how do you draw a bend abdomen?
like when people bend down to pick up things or doing warm up sitting as they try to reach for their feet.
i have less difficulty drawing the front view but i cant get 3/4 and side view to look right orz

What helps is looking at the spine, and looking at the ribcage and pelvis. The spine bends a bit as you probably know. It's like a bendy stick that has some give (but can't be folded in half or something nuts like that). The ribcage, however, does NOT bend. It's a big lump. Your pelvis also does not bend. If you draw the basic placement of those two objects, you can see where the crease of your abdomen will be. It will likely be a little bit below the ribcage (you do have some skin and fat in the way as padding, after all. If you're heavier you will have even more). Try drawing the ribs and pelvis from the side. That's pretty easy to google. Then draw some skin on top. Don't forget there are organs inside the "blank" part (your intestines, liver, etc), but those are smushy and can move a little bit. Just don't leave them out or you get creepy wasp waist, haha. Anyways, try that out and see if that helps!

I'll be honest... these look really good to me. Your notes and questions are great! But at some point, the details like length and relative curviness or straightness is going to depend on the specific body you're drawing. Everyone's proportions are a little different (some people have long torsos, some people have big bellies, etc etc) but all your sketches definitely fall within acceptable ranges. If you want to go for exact rendering, I'd suggest trying still life studies (you can probably find some nearby if you live close to a big town or university, if you're not already in art school) or doing mastercopies of paintings by classical artists. Or if you want to try to learn more realistic variation, again, still-life studies of models or working from photos from the internet like stock sites would be great. But seriously these are looking fine.

The only small crit I can make is maybe don't shy away from the genitals because there are some parts (like on the top pic) where drawing a big oval near the bottom might prevent you from learning the correct position, but that's not super necessary yet if you're just working on abs. You could also work on foreshortening a little bit more like on the second pic with the leg raised, but again that wasn't related to abs necessarily so maybe that was just a quick approximation on your side. Either way, nice work.

ohh cool. thanks!!

rofl yes i will try not to avoid the genitals ( im sure some of my friend would be happy to see me draw them haha ) for now im trying to get used to how the abdomen turn and bend. like the lower left one, under his right chest where i pointed, wasnt sure if that lump of meat is suppose to be there or gone from that angle-- though thanks again for the feedback! i'll try to draw more foreshortening too!
